Padfolio vs. Portfolio: What is the actual difference?
The Arkell is a classic Padfolio. It is designed to be slim, handle-free, and lightweight, meant to be carried under the arm or slipped inside a briefcase. It is streamlined for meetings where you only need a legal pad, a pen, and a few documents. Portfolio, by contrast, is generally bulkier, often features handles, and acts more like a small briefcase for carrying larger tech or heavy files
Hard Cover vs. Soft Cover: Which one should I choose?
We offer the Arkell in both builds to suit your work style:

Will it fit both A4 and US Letter/Legal size paper?
Yes. We engineered the Arkell to be universally compatible. The back-loading sleeve is designed to securely hold standardUS Letter (8.5" x 11") and Legal size pads. Meanwhile, the overall width of the padfolio is generous enough to accommodate international A4 paper without edges sticking out.
Can I fit an iPad or a tablet inside a padfolio?
Yes, with care. The large open pocket on the left side is sized to slide in a tablet like an iPad Air or iPad Pro 11". However, keep in mind that the Arkell is a slim-profile item. We advise against overstuffing it with thick keyboards or heavy cases, as leather naturally stretches to accommodate bulk but will not shrink back.
Will it fit a small laptop or Chromebook (Pixelbook etc.)?
No. The Arkell is designed for analog tools and slim tablets. It is not intended for laptops, Chromebooks, or thick ultrabooks. Forcing a laptop into the sleeve puts stress on the hand-stitching and distorts the leather's shape.
Does it come with a notebook/pen?
Every Arkell Padfolio arrives with a complimentary starter notebook so you’re ready for business immediately. Pens are sold separately. The integrated leather pen loop is sturdy and designed to last; it may feel tight at first but will break in and mold to the grip of your favorite pen over time.
How many pockets, card slots, and pen loops does it have?
The Arkell is built for "operational efficiency"—carrying exactly what you need, nothing you don't. You get:

What is "Crazy Horse" leather, and does it scratch easily?
This is our signature material. Crazy Horse is authentic full-grain cowhide treated with special natural waxes. It is supposed to show marks—that isn't a defect, it's character. Scratches can be easily rubbed out with the heat of your thumb or a soft cloth. However, we recommend letting them accumulate to develop a rich, vintage patina that tells your story.
How do I maintain and clean the leather?
Our leather is rugged, but a little care goes a long way:
- Spills: Wipe immediately with a slightly damp cloth. Never use harsh detergents.
- Scratches: Rub in a circular motion with a dry cloth to redistribute the wax.
- Long-Term: Apply a high-quality leather conditioner every 6–12 months to keep the hide supple and prevent drying.
Is it water-resistant or waterproof?
Genuine leather is porous. While the wax treatment offers some resistance to light splashes, the Arkell is not waterproof. If you get caught in the rain, wipe it down gently and let it air dry away from direct heat sources (like radiators) to prevent the leather from stiffening.
Can it be personalized: initials, name, company logo?

Caring for Your Crazy Horse Leather Bag - Crazy Horse Leather Care Guide
We are proud of the quality and craftsmanship of our bags. Every Yukon bag is designed to be tough enough to survive even the most rugged terrains while retaining their timeless beauty. Each bag must undergo a special process to earn the status of the Crazy Horse label. Bumps, bangs, and scratches intensify the bag’s vintage look and beauty. IF YOUR YUKON CRAZY HORSE LEATHER BAG GETS WET:
- Simply wipe dry with a soft leather cloth.
- Do not store your bag while wet.
- Wipe off any moisture before storing to prevent mold or mildew.
- After drying bag: Hang to dry or turn bag inside-out.
- Do not use a hairdryer or any type of heat to dry your bag. Applying heat can cause the leather to crack or harden.
FOR SPILLS:
- Wipe spills off with a slightly dampened cloth.
- Do NOT use detergents or cleansers on your Crazy Horse leather bag – this will discolor the leather and can destroy the beauty of the bag.
- If necessary: Use a soft toothbrush to gently scrub away any stains.

TO AVOID STRETCHING THE LEATHER:
- Limit the number of items stored in the bag over long periods.
- Limit storing heavy items for long periods.
- Avoid over-stuffing pockets.
TO KEEP YOUR CRAZY HORSE LEATHER SOFT AND SUPPLE:
- TEST a small patch before coating entire bag. Some products can change the color of the leather.
- Apply a THIN, even layer of leather balm or leather wax to your bag with a soft, clean sponge.
- Wipe off any excess balm (or wax) with a soft, dry, leather cloth.
We strongly recommend periodically treating your Yukon Bag to a coating of leather balm or wax to prevent the leather from becoming dry or cracked.
Caution: Overuse of products designed to keep leather soft can result in too much softening and may result in the bag losing its shape.
STORING YOUR CRAZY HOUSE LEATHER BAG:
- Protect your Yukon bag by storing it in a clean, dry space.
- Wipe away any moisture before storing your bag.
- Be sure the bag is completely DRY before storing it.
- For optimal results in maintaining the bag’s shape – empty bag before storing.
- For long periods of storage, we recommend keeping the bag in a soft cotton pillowcase. This will prevent discoloration from dust or infestation by insects (always check for them after a hike!).
- If you plan for your bag to stay in storage for an extended length of time, inspect it every 3-4 weeks. If you store the bag without emptying it first, check every 1-2 weeks to avoid stretching or mold.
